Dear Diary...or Dear Me?
I have been keeping a diary for years now...I believe it is good to record one's thoughts even just to relieve your mind or to just know someone is listening.
I think for me, I find that I hate talking..(quite contradicting..seeing as I am writing a BLOG..)..but I prefer to write than sit trying to find 'words' to say that will most probably fall short of what I am feeling.I find it easy to describe while writing than when talking.Although I can do it, when other external factor are involved (such as other humans) one tends to just get mixed up.People start telling you, you don't feel that, you feel this and in the end you get confused.com.Trying to explain yourself and yet just being mis-understood is a put-off for me.When important speech fall on deaf ears, it can sometimes infect the wound that you were trying to heal.Maybe that's just me, but when I write, I like to feel as though I have expressed myself and have been heard.Its not always about getting an 'opinion' or 'guidance' but just to let it out..However, writing in your diary is essentially you talking to yourself...and you hearing yourself speak about things that you are feeling.Its about connecting your mind, thoughts and feelings without being subject to contradictions or conclusions based on irrelevant information.So writing for me, is about connecting all the parts of my being and coming into a common understanding that will enable me to make a conscious decision about a particular issue.
Please do not get me wrong..I believe in DIVINE COUNSEL or the counsel of the Godly instead of the ungodly.When it comes to people, you got to know who to talk to and about what...My motto...'It matters what you say, how you say it and to whom you say it to'...so be very careful. If and when people mis-understand you, you will find yourself being placed in a box, or marked as something that you are not.So instead of overcoming a issue, it becomes the thing that defines you!!!So like the word says, seek divine counsel at all times.
So from time to time,I tend to glimpse through my diaries and I am always so astonished to how much information I gather about myself that no one can tell me but the 'younger me', the 'stupid me' or 'the confused me'. Looking back and reading my crazy rantings, I see the times when I was deceived, I recognise patterns of 'stupidity' especially in terms of relationships but more than that, in my words I can measure my growth, my wisdom, identify my seasons of weakness and/or victory, reminisce on the good and bad times as well as see the distance to which I have been racing.
One of the true treasures of a diary apart from the fact that it is a silent partner who keeps your secrets (unless it falls on the wrong hands, or your mum finds it while cleaning)...It shows you the real you in your own words.What is better than knowing yourself through your own words?That is what I love about God..His word...John 1:1 states that, 'In the beginning was the word, and the word was with God and the word was God'. His word shows you exactly what and who He is..and that is what He stands by,His word.
So if I can turn the pages into my past (literally) and see where I went wrong, where I grew, where I fell and where I was just plain Immature, I believe I can avoid replicating the same mistakes to at least try and achieve a 'less drama' free future.Your diary can show you how you lie to yourself, how you abuse yourself, how you sell yourself short and at times where you were pretty darn smart!!
It is not just looking in your reflection and talking, but its searching back in the drawers of your mind and emotions to see how you cope in different seasons and circumstances such as joy, peace, pain, hurt and your youth.Little nuggets to treasured information, saved up just for the right moment!
Record keeping is really important, but the records of your present as you walk into your future are priceless.When your memory lets you down, you can always just read back. When your emotions dispute your actions, you can look back and see why you made the choice you made.Like a self-written, self-assessment form!
When there is a prophetic word over your life you can wait and see when it comes to pass.All your goals, your visions, your dreams and plans, are recorded and you can look back to see if they have manifested or flourished.
In the end, it matters what you say when you write and hopefully the information contained in the books describing the different levels of your life, will contain vital wisdom, knowledge or understanding to a better 'you' ,for a better tomorrow.
It is not just 'dear diary' but more 'dear Brenda what do you think?'
So if you write, keep at it, if you don't...... try it!...but remember;
"It matters what you say, How you say it and to whom you say it to!"
Love, love, love...

Very clear and make sense, even enlightening, clarify ideas that you knew, but couldn't grasp and encapsulate so you could fully understand or even process it, consider it. And true, can't say it, but when you write it comes out...
